| 2006-2007 Professor of the Year Award
Dr. Thomas Morton Each year we invite students to nominate Honors faculty for the University Honors Program Professor of the Year. This award recognizes outstanding faculty who participate in the Honors Program through teaching and mentoring. Students may nominate professors with whom they’ve taken an Honors course or worked with for undergraduate research. This year, we are honoring Dr. Thomas Morton, Professor of Chemistry, in part for his courses in fall, winter, and spring quarters: Honors Organic Chemistry Discussion. But also for his work with Honors students to publish a scholarly paper in the UCR Honors Journal, Audeamus. Dr. Morton also co-taught an interdisciplinary Honors course, HNPG 20: The Nature of Academic Research with Dr. Kronenfeld in winter quarter. Dr. Morton is a Professor of Organic Chemistry and Neuroscience, and earned his PhD from the California Institute of Technology. A nomination of Dr. Morton noted, he is “very approachable, and I have never loved a subject so much that I even spent much of my own time to study the subject, and Dr. Morton is one of the main reasons why I put so much more effort into organic chemistry. His devotion to students and science helped me to foster my own passion for science. I find him to be a great mentor because I realize my understanding and love for the field has grown significantly as a direct result of Dr. Morton's guidance.” We want to thank Professor Morton for his commitment to student learning both inside and outside of the classroom and for helping Honors studentsPast UHP Professors of the Year . . .
