| 2005-2006 Professor of the Year Award
Dr. Andrews Reath The winner of the 2005-06 UHP Professor of the Year Award is Dr. Andrews Reath from the Department of Philosophy. This award recognizes outstanding faculty who participate in the Honors Program through teaching and mentoring. Students may nominate professors with whom they’ve taken an Honors course or worked with for undergraduate research. This year, we honored Dr. Andrews Reath, Professor of Philosophy, in part for his course in Winter quarter: Phil 003H: Honors Ethics and the Meaning of Life. Professor Reath has taught for us several quarters and has become a great teacher and mentor for Honors students and friend of the Honors Program. Professor Reath is a Professor of Philosophy, and earned his PhD from Harvard University. His research interests include contemporary moral theory, the history of ethics, Kant’s moral and political philosophy, and social and political philosophy. We want to thank Professor Reath for his commitment to student learning both inside and outside of the classroom and for helping Honors students engage in engaging and sometimes difficult conversations about ethical questions, values, and the meaning of life. A nomination of Professor Reath noted that his Ethics and the Meaning of Life course was “insightful and interesting.” Students praised his innovative discussions, his unique lecture style which kept students engaged, and his ability to make class fun and interesting at the same time. One nomination noted that “class was never boring and he taught to the students rather than at them.” Past UHP Professors of the Year . . .
