Continuing Students in Lower Division What is a continuing student within the University Honors Program? A Continuing Student is one who is no longer in their first year at UCR and who is striving to complete their requirements for the completion of Lower Division Honors. It is the desire of the University Honors Program that Continuing Students continue to feel a part of the program and members of our community. All Continuing Students are welcome to attend Muffin Mornings, seek services from the staff at the offices and utilize the resources we have (such as the computer lab). Continuing Students are eligible to live in Honors Housing. They are enrolled in Honors seminars and sections as well as engaging in individual research experiences by taking HNPG 97 units. The following items are important for Continuing Students, especially for them to reach their goal of completing lower division honors and to continue their commitment to the program. The basic requirements for good standing status as a Continuing Student are as follows:

Students in good standing are eligible to submit applications for both Housing
Fellowships and Non-Residential Fellowships. Applications must be submitted to
the UHP office by the end of fall quarter each year. · Peer Mentoring – Continuing Students in good standing are eligible to apply to become a Peer Mentor. · Preparation for Upper Division Honors – as the Continuing Student gets closer to completion they should consider their eligibility to participate in Upper Division honors by consulting the coordinator.

can evaluate their ability to participate in activities that will enhance their
educational experience and prepare them for their futures. Commonly Asked Questions What does it mean to Complete Lower Division Honors? The following will happen when you reach your goal of completing Lower Division Honors:
Do I have to attend three Muffin Mornings each quarter? No, the only items you need to fulfill are listed on your learning contract. What will happen if I do not fulfill my learning contract requirements? The learning contract is designed to bring the most to the student during their time with our program and at UCR. In order to fulfill the mission of the Honors Program we require all students to maintain the contract in good standing. Those students who do not fulfill their learning contract will be notified in writing and placed on UHP probation for one quarter. If the learning contract is not fulfilled the following quarter the student will be dismissed from the program. What is the difference between Sophomore Honors and a continuing student? A continuing student entered into the program as an incoming freshmen student. Sophomore Honors is a program for students who entered into the program during their first year at UCR. I was in lower division honors but was dismissed. How can I be reinstated? Those students who were dismissed due to low GPA are eligible to request reinstatement by sending an email message with details regarding their situation to the coordinator for Continuing Students. |
