Fellowship Guidelines for Fall 2009-2010

Overview
The Honors Fellowship is designed to encourage and support scholarly endeavors of University Honors Program (UHP) participants.  First Year and Continuing Student Fellowships are available and subject to selection criteria provided in the eligibility guidelines.  Based on our funding source need is a factor, and all fellowships are awarded on the basis of academic merit (GPA) and completion of the UHP Learning Contract.

Honors Fellowship application forms are provided only online on the Honor website. The application deadline for all fellowships is the last day of classes during fall quarter instruction.

Honors Fellowship awards are subject to funding availability. Fellowships are not guaranteed.  Based on funding availability, it is possible that not all eligible students will be awarded a fellowship. Each fellowship award category includes minimum qualifying requirements and need is a factor.

Eligibility
In order to be eligible for the Honors Fellowship, students must:

1. Submit an online fellowship application by the last day of classes during fall quarter instruction.

2. Be an active member of the University Honors Program in good standing. Absolutely no exceptions will be made.

Good Academic Standing within the Honors Program includes:
•    First Year and Continuing Students (Lower Division): cumulative GPA of 3.20 and above, and successful completion of the learning contract.
•    Sophomore Component Students: cumulative GPA of 3.50 and above, complete at minimum two quarters of UCR work. Successfully complete the learning contract.
•    Upper Division Students: cumulative GPA of 3.50 and above, successful completion of the learning contract. and complete two quarters at UC Riverside, with at least 32 hours of academic credit towards their degree.

Additional notes for eligibility:
Fellowships are awarded to currently enrolled participants, actively involved in the fulfillment of the Lower Division, the Sophomore or Upper Division components.  Fellowships are available for students from all three colleges and majoring in any discipline, and there are no restrictions by year except that students must not have graduated at the time the fellowship is awarded.

First year students must be in good academic standing with a 3.2 cumulative or better in both fall and winter quarters in order to receive the fellowships. If you are on Honors probation in winter or spring, you are ineligible to receive a fellowship.

Students who are dismissed from the Honors Program and reinstated in the same academic year are not eligible for the fellowship.

The awarding of an Honors Fellowship will impact the student’s financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office, in accordance with federal and State regulations. Please note that in cases in which students are fully funded, the fellowship will replace loans and work-study, rather than being in addition to such funding. This means students will receive the fellowship in place of, not in addition to, funding such as loans.

Honors Residential Fellowship: $1200/$1000 Award
Honors students living in Honors housing in Pentland Hills or Aberdeen/Inverness are eligible for the residential fellowship. Priority will be given to first year students, however, the award is also available to continuing students on an “as funds are available” basis. First year students are eligible for $1200 and continuing students may receive $1000.  Students must meet the required grade point average, be in good standing and meet all Learning Contract stipulations in order to be awarded a fellowship.

Honors Academic Enrichment Fellowship: $500 Award
Honors students not living in Honors housing are eligible for the Honors Academic Enrichment fellowship. Continuing, Sophomore Component, and Upper Division students may be awarded honors academic enrichment fellowships in either winter or spring quarter, if the funds will be used to support research, EAP or UCDC. Students may receive only one fellowship per academic year.

First year students will be awarded honors academic enrichment fellowships in spring quarter only. Students may receive only one fellowship per academic year.

Students must meet the required grade point average, be in good standing and meet all Learning Contract stipulations in order to be awarded a fellowship.

Students must choose to apply for one of the following honors academic enrichment fellowships:

Deadline
