General Information

As a member of the University Honors Program, you will discover the independent yet supportive learning environment that characterizes the University Honors Program (UHP). Summer honors students have the chance to explore issues and topics of common interests with professors and continuing UHP students and, along the way, to take advantage of the academic resources available at the University of California, Riverside.

The Summer University Honors Program (SUHP) builds on the high standards and strong skills that already make you an outstanding student and encourages you to explore new, challenging fields as a UHP student at UC Riverside. Like the UHP during the academic year, the SUHP gives you a good place to develop your intellectual independence in a context of support along with providing the initial introduction into the four key components of the Honors Program: Scholarship, Research, Personal Growth and Community Services.

SUHP is also a chance to meet other students, both continuing and new. In the fall, you'll already have a place on campus where you know the people and where people know you. SUHP is designed to make sure that you're ready to get the most out of the UHP during the year.

SUHP Activities

  • UHP Summer Seminar: This is a curriculum of academic study and "college survival skills" structured around readings and lectures on a specific stimulating topic. Seminar activities are designed to enhance your preparedness for college level study during your first year at UCR.

  • Social Events: Hall Olympics, Talent Show, Dance.

  • Introduction to: UCR, The Honors Program, Campus Faculty and Resources, and the City of Riverside.

  • Personal Growth and Community Service Workshops: Series of presentations on campus resources, along with workshops on designing your own personal growth plan and community service activities to be completed during the academic year.
