UHP Peer Mentor: Teresa Khoo
I am a 3rd year Biology major with a Neuroscience minor. This will be my 2nd year as a Peer Mentor. I am also a SI instructor for Chemistry and Biology. So, if you ever need help in those subjects, just let me know! I am also involved in Clinical Care Extenders and Student Run Health Center. Both are amazing experiences that help you get a glimpse into the medical field in two different environments. Some things I love to do are: bowling, reading, eating (honestly, who doesn’t?), grocery shopping or shopping in general, and traveling. My family takes a trip to some place different every year. I have been to places such as Greece, Spain, Alaska, China, and Italy. I really love learning about the history and culture of the people that reside there. As a friend once told me, “Strangers are friends you haven’t met.” So, go out there and make some new friends! Hopefully, after college, I will go to Medical school, preferably somewhere in California, but I am always open for new scenery! I would like to do something in the field of surgery and work in a teaching hospital. And, if you are wondering, I do watch shows such as House and Grey’s Anatomy. A new reality show I discovered this summer is called Hopkins. It follows doctors of John Hopkins Hospital. It is like a real-life version of Grey’s Anatomy. You should definitely check it out. If you are wondering what you can do for community service, here is what I did my freshmen year. I did Corazon de Vida for community service. Basically, you take a trip with other students to an orphanage in Mexico, and you play with the little kids there. It is truly a very rewarding experience. I also did Relay for Life. Relay for Life is an organization that is devoted to raising money and awareness about cancer. They have an overnight event in the spring. Honors is an awesome program. You have a network of people who are there for you whenever you need to talk or have questions. You get to meet amazing people in different fields that you probably would not have ever met. Honors is like your second family! All I can say is that I am uber excited to meet all of you! My advice is to take advantage of all that you have within your grasp. And here at UCR, you have a lot that you can do. If you ever have any questions, need advice, or just want to kick back and chat, please feel free to email me at tkhoo001@ucr.edu. Good luck and have a great year! |
