UHP Peer Mentor: Shruti Dasgupta
Hey everyone!! My name is Shruti and I am a third year Bioengineering major. It is reputed to be a tough major and may be it is, given the amount of time and effort I have to put into my courses. But, tough major or not, as long as I enjoy what I am doing, hard work never seem like a burden to me – just like being a mentor has been one of the most rewarding and enjoyable experiences of my college life!
Now for a little bit more about me. I am a person full of contradictions. For example, I am very traditional in a lot of respects, but at the same time I am a rebel in many others. An impossible thing, you think? It may not seem so once you get to know me. I have a wide range of emotions and have been told that I usually have them at quick successions. I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE various kinds of dances, but I myself can't dance one single step. Music is my life, and I have a wide ranging taste. I need music in every step of my life, but strangely enough I don't own any Ipod yet. I get overly psyched about anything related to India, Bengali, or Calcutta (for those of you who aren't quite sure what Bengali or Calcutta is, don't worry; once we get acquainted you will surely hear all about it). I draw a bit, but my best drawings are done when I'm bored out of my mind, which is not very often. And sometimes, I get into these phases of philosophizing about life. I love making new friends and I really can't wait to meet you guys and get to know you better! I have been a first year student not too long ago, and I do understand the plights, the excitement and the new found freedom of being in college for the first time. In my first year, I had really good mentors that helped me through the process and I hope to bring the same kind of support to you guys. Have a super-duper, extra special, deliciously groovy, terrifically awesome first year of college and let me know anytime anywhere if I can make it even better!! My email address is sdasg002@ucr.edu. Looking for Community Service? If you are looking for Community Service, there are many opportunities all year round. There are definite clubs and groups as well as those sudden opportunities that pop up once in a while. I am a member of Young At Heart, which is an organization that gives us an opportunity to go and enjoy our time with senior citizens. It is an exceptionally gratifying experience to be able to put a smile on the faces of these people who miss a lot of excitement in their life. There are also other organizations like Corazon de Vida, Best Buddies etc. If you need any help with that you are free to ask me and I would be more than happy to assist you. |
