UHP Peer Mentor: Kathleen Norsworthy

Hey everybody! My name is Kathleen and I am a fourth year History and English double major. This will be my third year as an Honors Peer Mentor. I hope to become a high school teacher after I finish my degrees and credential program. I lived in an Honors hall for two years, which I highly recommend doing if you can. This coming year, I’ll be living in Glen Mor (the new building behind Pentland Hills) for the second year in a row. Otherwise, I am from Claremont, CA, which isn't too far from our lovely campus. On campus, I participate in the Concert Band two nights a week. It is a lot of fun, so if you play an instrument and want to get involved, just email me or contact the music department. It serves two great purposes: getting involved in something you enjoy doing and fulfilling your personal growth requirement. In addition, I work on campus at the Learning Center, doing peer counseling and teaching workshops. I also love bowling, crocheting and watching movies in my spare time, if I have spare time. If you ever just want to hang out or have any questions in general, you can email me at: knors001@student.ucr.edu. That's all folks!

Community Service Opportunities:
There are so many community service opportunities available through the UCR campus. I recommend finding one that works for YOU. There are also opportunities off campus as well. Two years ago, I volunteered at my church, working with Pre-K kids in Sunday school. It was a lot of fun. Currently, I help run community service projects through the Honors Program. One is Adopt-a-Pumpkin, which is used to raise money for the UCR Child Development Center. Also, this year I will be running the Honors Knitting/Crocheting Group, which will donate projects or sell them to raise money. My recommendation is to find something that you enjoy and are going to get the most out of, because your whole experience will be more fulfilling that way. Again, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
