UHP Peer Mentor: Karisma Kothari

Hey Everyone! My name is Karisma Kothari. I am a third year student, majoring in Biological Sciences and planning to minor in Film and Visual Culture. I was born in Houston, TX and moved to Riverside at the age of one. Therefore, I officially call myself a Riversidian! I commute from home, so for all you commuter students out there if you have any concerns feel free to contact me at kkoth001@ucr.edu. Personally I love commuting, because I get the best of both worlds, hanging out with friends in the dorms and apartments, as well as going to my home sweet home every night.

Anyways, I am a very spontaneous, often loud, and random person. If you ever hear a loud laugh in the honors hall, just follow it and you'll find me! My interests and hobbies include: dancing, singing karaoke, shopping (what girl doesn't'), video editing, and most of all I love playing tennis. My favorite TV show at the moment is Grey's Anatomy, no surprise since I'm planning on going into medicine and am a pre-med.  For all you House fans don’t be disappointed I’m starting to get into that show as well, that is when I actually have the time to sit down and watch TV.  I currently am a CCE volunteer inter at the Riverside Community Hospital, it is a great way to get patient care experience. If you have any questions or want to talk about pre-med or medicine, college, or just life don't be a stranger, introduce yourself and I'll be there.

Looking for Community Service?

If you are looking for community service, Best Buddies is a great option. I've found it extremely rewarding to help individuals around our age with intellectual disabilities. It's a way to make a friend and also give back to the community. Basically, you befriend an individual and do activities together, talk on the phone, and just be yourself and have fun. However, when choosing a community service activity make sure it is something you are passionate about and enjoy doing, because only then are you fully able to give back to the community.
