UHP Peer Mentor: Jen Barr

Jen is a second-year creative writing major with a predilection for writing in third person. She's from a little town called Poway near San Diego where it smells like wet hay and wet horse when it rains, yet still has three Starbucks. She wants to get a double major in something else, but that changes from week to week, so you have to ask her to get the most current update. Her career goal is somewhere between editor for outdoor magazine and park ranger. Jen works at a Boy Scout camp on Catalina Island in the summers and will gleefully talk your ear off with stories from there. During the year, she is an officer for Dancesport of UCR: Ballroom and Latin Dance club, an editor for Audeamus (the more-than-literary mag for UC honors students), editor-in-chief for the online spoken word journal Verbal Graffiti, and oh yeah--a peer mentor. Jen backpacks, kayaks, drinks chai, and plays Ultimate Frisbee very badly.
