UHP Peer Mentor: Heather Halstead

Hi all! I am Heather Halstead and I am a second year undergrad majoring in Biological Sciences. I want to become a doctor one day, hopefully sooner than later. I moved to California when I was 9 years old. Originally I am from the Midwest, Michigan to be exact. I love it in Southern California! I cannot see myself living anywhere but here, unless of course it is in another country!!!

I grew up around a ton of animals, but dogs are definitely my favorite. I love German Shepherds. When I am not studying I love to listen to music. My favorite band is “El Canto del Loco,” but really I would listen to just about anything…so long as it is in Spanish. The reason for this, I absolutely love the language! I think it sounds so pretty!!! I also enjoy cooking with friends, shopping, reading about the cultures and traditions of other countries, taking classes at the rec center, and as of this summer crocheting blankets.

Looking for Community Service?

I recommend volunteering at an animal shelter. The dogs love to get out of their kennels to go for walks…plus, any animal appreciates some extra TLC!
