UHP Peer Mentor: Danielle Wickman
Hi!
My name is Danielle Wickman and I was born and raised in Escondido, CA, but have
spent the past 5 years in Murrieta, CA and most recently here at UC Riverside. I
am a second year currently undeclared in the College of Natural and Agricultural
Sciences (CNAS) but am most interested in declaring myself to be a Biology or
Neuroscience major by the end of this academic year. I believe that pursuing a
degree in either of these majors will be rewarding and will prepare me for a
career in the medical field. I hope to pursue a career in the health-field,
either through medical school or graduate school. Whichever route I commit
myself to, I would like to travel internationally to help the beautiful people
of third world countries in any way I can, but hopefully in areas related to
HIV/AIDS, surgery, or with diseases in general.
I am currently co-director of publicity for a student organization called
Research Organization For Leukemia- and other blood cancers (R.O.F.L.). I am
also involved with InterVarsity Fellowship and spent the past summer working for
the Student Life and Leadership Center as a Bear Facts Orientation Counselor. In
addition, this will be my first year as a UHP peer mentor! I am very excited to
meet and help all of the incoming UHP first years, but especially in getting to
know my group of mentees on a personal level. Besides studying, I also enjoy
surfing Moonlight beach or San Onofre, eating VG donuts and food at other good
restaurants, dancing, outdoor adventures, listening to all types of music,
reading a good book, and enjoying the UCR experience with my close friends.

R.O.F.L. sponsors on-campus blood drives, bone marrow tests, works with
Relay-for-Life, and also aims to raise awareness within the student population
of leukemia and other blood cancers. As mentioned before, the club is fairly
new, so if you would like to get involved, please email me at
dwick002@ucr.edu.
