UHP Peer Mentor: Sean O'Grady

Hello all! I'm Sean O'Grady, and I'm a third year Political Science - Administrative Studies major. I'm a native of Riverside and have worked at the Riverside Visitor Center, so I'm proud to say that I know a lot about our beautiful city. I am also currently working for CHASS Student Affairs as a Student Advising Specialist, which has enabled me to learn a great deal about college policies, breadth requirements, student life, and how to help students with their first year at UCR. Over the summer, I had the awesome experience of teaching Introduction to University Life for the Summer Bridge program. Through this, not only did I continue to develop my skills of how to help students with issues they will face during their first year, but I also found that this year's incoming freshmen are an absolute delight to work with! I'm very excited to continue my second year of peer mentoring for the University Honors Program.

In my family, I'm the oldest of three children. My brother is 12, and my sister is 15. My mom is a computer programmer for a large grocery chain, and my dad is an economics and psychology teacher at a local high school. After college, I'm considering a career in student affairs or possibly teaching at the high school level. I am also thinking about going into local government several years from now.

If you have any questions or anything you'd like to talk about, please feel free to send me an email at sogra001@ucr.edu

Looking for Community Service?

If you live close to home, I highly suggest going back to your old high school and lending them a hand. Even if you're not close to home, a lot of the high schools in Riverside could sure use the help. My community service last year consisted of helping out my high school plan assemblies and develop their academic recognition program. But you could also help coach a sport, be a judge for their debate team, volunteer in their library, or provide free tutoring after school.
