UHP Peer Mentor: Ashini Shah

Hi Guys,

I am Ashini Shah and I am reaaalllly excited to meet all of you! I am a second year student and my major is Biological Sciences with an emphasis on Cell, Molecular and Developmental Biology. I wish to become a successful Dentist someday; if possible, I would want to Post Graduate as a Maxilo Facial Surgeon so that I could a DDS and an MD after my name… cool huh!...but that’s too far from now! So as in right now, my goal is to get into a dental school no matter what it takes. So, if you are a Pre-Dent then make sure you come say hi to me; the Pre-Meds are also most welcome to talk to me (I actually know more about getting into a med school than dental school… weird huh!).

Ummm… about me…. I was born and brought up in India and moved to California when I was 16 (i.e. in 2004). I am verrrrryyyy friendly and verrrryyyyy talkative and I look upon being friends with all of you! I love helping people, and I get really excited about it. After becoming a dentist, I wish to go back to India someday and help my people there. I spend a great amount of time in the honors hall…so if you ever need me, honors hall is the place to look for me. You can also facebook me, email me or call me and I will try my best to help you out.

“Becoming a star may not be in your destiny, but becoming the best you can is the goal you can set for yourself!”

Looking for Community Service?

For community service, I would say Young at Heart is a good option to consider. I am a member of Young at Heart, and it's fun going to Convalescent homes every weekend and playing Bingo with the residents there. But Young at Heart is just one option! There are more than 200 clubs and student organizations on campus and a lot of them offer community service opportunities. Try out new things and find out what excites you the most!
