Personal Growth and Community Service"Education is not limited to the classroom. The ultimate goal of education is to give you greater insight to yourself." - Malcolm X The Personal Growth and Community Service components of the UCR Honors Program provide a framework for students to discover more about themselves. The students participate in a variety of activities, on and off campus, that will teach them how to define their goals, consider their options, and develop practical strategies for life after college. Each activity is designed to complement the students' academic studies and to motivate and challenge them to become well-rounded, active learners. Consistent with the University Honors Program's belief in "service learning," students are required to volunteer their talents and efforts to better the community. Students must choose at least one activity from Personal Growth and at least one from Community Service. Participation in Personal Growth and Community Service is mandatory. Students commit for one or two quarters. The two links below will lead you to many exciting ideas and activities. If you are already involved in an activity that is not listed on this website, simply explain what you are doing to the lower division coordinator to learn how it may be applied to the program requirements. |
